Adding Questions

Quizzes are made up of questions. This article outlines how to create questions for your quiz.

Top tip: Create questions before creating a quiz. That makes it easier to pull together the quiz.

Create a Question

Find your questions by expanding the left-hand menu > Your Courses > Questions. Click the button “Add A New Question” to create a new question.

Question Page

Fill out the basic details about your question on this page:

  • Question title: This is not visible to the learner, but helps you keep track of your questions. This is the title you will see when pulling together your quiz.
  • Question content: Ask your question here.
  • Answer type: This allows you to specify what type of question this is:
    • Single choice – only one correct answer
    • Multiple choice – more than one correct answer
    • Free choice – gives the learner a space to type an answer. You can set more than one word as correct. For example, if you asked “Which planet is famous for its rings?” you could set all these as correct answers: Saturn, Satrun, Satunr.
    • Sorting choice – requires the learner to put things in the correct order. The topmost option is the first in the order.
    • Matrix sorting choice – requires the learner to drag/drop items to match a term.
    • Fill in the Blank – requires the learner to type in the missing word(s).
    • Assessment – allows a learner to rate something on a scale, e.g. a 1-10 scale.
    • Essay / Open Answer – allows the learner to write in a text field, or upload a file. For meaningful feedback, this requires an Instructor to intervene to grade the essay.
  • Follow the prompts to add the required details for your questions.

Settings

The Settings tab contains additional options:

  • Points – only used if you’re using points throughout the quiz; a fairly uncommon requirement
  • Message with correct answer – information the user would see if they got the question right
  • Message with incorrect answer – information the user would see if they got the question wrong
  • Hint – allows you to provide a hint for particularly tricky answers. In the Reporting, you can see if they used the hint or not.
  • Associated quiz – eventually this will have the name of the Quiz you create. If you haven’t created the Quiz yet, leave this blank.

Once you have added some questions, you can move on to creating the Quiz.
