Our Values – Ngā Uara

Values are fundamental principles that guide individual beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours, serving as a personal compass for deciding what is right and wrong. They shape our identity, influence decisions, and help form relationships by providing a sense of purpose and meaning. Examples of common values include honesty, kindness, courage, and responsibility.

Māori values are a holistic worldview centered on relationships, community, and the environment, guided by principles like whanaungatanga (kinship and belonging), manaakitanga (hospitality and care), and kaitiakitanga (guardianship of the natural world). Other core concepts include rangatiratanga (autonomy and self-determination), wairuatanga (spirituality), and tikanga (customary practices and protocols).
