Meren is sign language teacher. She started learning NZSL in 2005 when working as a dog trainer at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Meren currently teaches night classes at Literacy Aotearoa in Upper Hutt and is a member of the New Zealand Sign Language Teachers Association.
