Strength-based approach vs deficit-based approach
In the following chart is a comparison between the strength-based approach and the deficit-based approach.
This is a good checklist to help inform and improve our practice. We can run through this list after every client appointment as a way of reflecting on how we handled the appointment. It can be a useful tool for us to identify the areas we are doing well and where we can improve things. This can also be used in peer supervision or team meetings to identify areas which may be causing issues for everyone in your service.
