Principle 1: Respect for People and Communities

This section establishes the fundamental values and principles that underpin financial mentoring practice. These ethical principles should guide all professional practice and inform decision-making in complex situations.

Respect for people and communities means recognising the dignity, strengths, and lived experiences of every client while honouring the diverse cultural, social, and community contexts they belong to. Financial mentors value each person as an expert in their own life and understand that financial wellbeing is closely connected to whānau, culture, and community.
